A Night of Inspiration at the Spirit of Excellence Gala

  • News

Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) hosted its 15th annual Spirit of Excellence Gala on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the stunning VEA Newport Beach, bringing together more than 300 business leaders, distinguished alumni, and supporters of public education. The celebratory evening highlighted the extraordinary achievements within the Irvine community and raised critical funds to support innovative teaching and learning throughout Irvine Unified School District (IUSD). This year’s event raised over $1.3 million to benefit the district’s 38,000+ students.

“The Spirit of Excellence Gala is a celebration of what is possible when a community comes together to support education,” said Neda Eaton, President and CEO of IPSF. “Tonight, we honored extraordinary alumni who inspire our students to dream big, and we raised critical resources that help fuel innovation in every classroom. The unwavering support of our donors and partners makes it possible for students to explore their interests, discover their strengths, and reach their fullest potential.”

Guests began the evening with an elegant sunset reception, where they witnessed a live art demonstration by Madison Weinberg, an eighth grader at Rancho San Joaquin Middle School and the 2025 OC Art4All Winner for outstanding creativity and design. Madison, who also plays trumpet, excels in soccer, and aspires to become either a plastic surgeon or a graphic designer, created a one-of-a-kind painting live at the event. The piece later sold for $6,000 during the auction, drawing enthusiastic applause and showcasing the remarkable talent fostered in Irvine schools.

Honoring Excellence in the Arts: Farnaz Esnaashari

This year, IPSF proudly recognized Farnaz Esnaashari, Irvine High School Class of 1999, as the 2025 Spirit Excellence in Arts Honoree. Farnaz’s remarkable journey from a Nickelodeon intern, contributed to iconic shows such as Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go!, to the creator and executive producer of the hit animated series Shimmer and Shine serves as a powerful testament to the impact of creativity, cultural storytelling, and perseverance. Inspired by her Iranian-American heritage, her work has reached millions of young viewers worldwide.

Beyond television, Farnaz has led content development across major media platforms, authored children’s books, and championed mentorship for emerging creators. Her story reflects the limitless potential nurtured within Irvine schools and stands as an inspiration to students to explore their passions and pursue their dreams.

Featured Special Guest: Olympic Champion Jason Lezak

IPSF was honored to welcome Jason Lezak, Irvine High School Class of 1994, as this year’s featured special guest. One of the United States’ most accomplished relay swimmers, he competed in four Olympic Games and earned eight medals throughout his legendary career. During an intimate panel discussion, Jason shared his message of determination, teamwork, and pushing beyond limits which resonated deeply with attendees and underscored the power of supporting students both in and out of the classroom.

A Night of Community, Commitment, and Inspiration

The evening featured a powerful moment from student speaker Elliott Knox, a sixth grader at Solis Park School, who shared how IPSF-supported programs have shaped her confidence and identity.

“My parents have always taught me to give back to our community,” Elliott told the audience. “Most people know Irvine is one of the top school districts in the country, but what they might not realize is that many families need support. Luckily, we have an amazing community and organizations like IPSF to help bridge the gap.”

Elliott described how participating in an IPSF-sponsored musical in fourth grade transformed his life: “I didn’t expect that I would fall completely in love with theatre. Every rehearsal pushed me a little more, and with every role, I grew more confident, not just on stage, but in everyday life too. Theatre helped me discover who I am and reminded me that my voice matters.”

She closed with a message to donors: “When you raise your paddle, you’re not just donating. You’re helping us discover our confidence, find our voices, and imagine a bigger future for ourselves.”

Her heartfelt remarks received a standing ovation and set the stage for a special candlelight student performance by the IUSD Chamber Strings Ensemble, created in honor of the evening’s guests.

IPSF extends its heartfelt appreciation to the event’s generous sponsors and partners including FivePoint – Great Park Neighborhoods, First American Trust, Irvine Company, Simply Orthodontics, UC Irvine, and Total Wine & More, whose support helped make the 2025 Spirit of Excellence Gala a success. Together, we are investing in a brighter future for Irvine students and ensuring that educational excellence continues to thrive for years to come.
