
Winter Bowl 2022
On Saturday, January 29, SoCal Elite Sports, in partnership with the Matt Leinart Flag Football League, hosted the Winter Bowl Flag Football Tournament to benefit Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) at the Great Park. This year, over 1100 players from 29 IUSD schools including virtual academy. Teams in grades three through eight, came together to represent their school and compete for the coveted Winter Bowl champion title.
“The purpose of these tournaments is to promote school spirit and unite the Irvine community through district-wide sports tournaments while providing exciting, fun opportunities for physical education and skill development for the students of IUSD,” explains Neda Eaton, President and CEO of Irvine Public Schools Foundation. “We are thrilled to see the Tournament of Champions return this year and are so grateful for the students, parents, coaches, and volunteers who come out in support of educational excellence.”
This year’s Winter Bowl champions include:
- 3rd Grade – Westpark
- 3rd-4th Grade Girls – Vista Verde
- 4th Grade – Vista Verde
- 4th Grade “B” – Oak Creek
- 5th Grade – Westpark
- 5th-6th Grade Girls – Westpark
- 6th Grade – Alderwood
- 6th Grade “B” – Turtle Rock
- 6th Grade CoEd – Culverdale
- 7th Grade – Venado
- 7th Grade “B” – Sierra Vista
- 8th Grade – Vista Verde
- 8th Grade “B” – Lakeside
The Winter Bowl is the first event in the annual Tournament of Champions, consisting of soccer, basketball, volleyball, and flag football tournaments. Schools earn points for their performance in each tournament, and the school with the most points at the end of the year is awarded the Champions Cup to display at their school the following year.
The next tournament, Hoops Classic, will be held in March 2022, followed by Volley Fest in April 2022, and ending with the Harvest Cup in May 2022. Learn more at: https://ocyouthsports.org/tournament/winter-bowl/schedules
