
CONGRATULATIONS WINTER BOWL 2018 CHAMPIONS!
January 30, 2018On Saturday, January 27, Irvine Public Schools Foundation in partnership with the Matt Leinart Flag Football League and SoCal Elite Sports hosted the 4th annual Winter Bowl Flag Football Tournament at the Great Park. The Winter Bowl is a school-based tournament, with teams comprised of players from individual schools in the city of Irvine, including boys’ and girls’ teams in grades three through eight. This year, over 700 students from 29 schools participated in the tournament, 70 teams in total, including 6 girls’ teams.
“The purpose of these tournaments is to promote school spirit and unite the Irvine community through district-wide sports tournaments, while providing exciting, fun opportunities for physical sports education and skill development for the students of IUSD,” explains Neda Eaton, President and CEO of Irvine Public Schools Foundation. “In its fourth year, we are thrilled to see the continued growth of the Winter Bowl and are so grateful for the students, parents, coaches, and volunteers who come out in support of educational excellence.”
This year’s Winter Bowl champions include:
- 3rd Grade Boys’ Division- Vista Verde
- 4th Grade Boys’ Division- Vista Verde
- 4th-6th Grade Girls’ Division- Bonita Canyon
- 5th Grade Boys’ Division- Orchard Hills
- 6th Grade Boys’ Division- College Park
- 7th Grade Boys’ Division- Sierra Vista
- 8th Grade Boys’ Division- South Lake
The Winter Bowl is the second event in IPSF’s annual Tournament of Champions, consisting of soccer, basketball, and flag football tournaments. Schools earn points for their performance in each tournament, and the school with the most points at the end of the year is awarded the Champions Cup to display at their school the following year.
