
IRVINE STUDENTS NAMED TO 40 UNDER 40
January 10, 2022Congratulations to Mathew Chang of Woodbridge High School and Swetha Palakur of Irvine High School on being honored with the Future Leaders awards at the Greater Irvine Chamber’s third annual 40 Under 40 event. This event recognizes some of Orange County’s brightest young professionals who are positively impacting and moving our community forward.

IRVINE CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK
Woodbridge High School Freshman Class President and orchestra member, Matthew Chang is president and founder of Irvine Climate Action Network, a youth movement dedicated to making sustainable change in the community. He serves on the City of Irvine Green Ribbon Environmental Committee as a student member-at-large. He is deeply involved with Irvine City Council and local school districts to empower other youth leaders. Matthew is the host of a national environmental podcast. His work has been featured on local TV stations.

Mechanical Engineering Student, UCLA
IRVINE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE
While attending Irvine High School, Swetha Palakur participated in Irvine Public Schools Foundation’s CubeSat program and other engineering and robotics programs where she learned how the design process could solve the world’s biggest problems. Now, a first-year student at UCLA pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, Swetha is working on projects including programming an autonomous rover with retrieval and obstacle avoidance capabilities and prototyping a therapeutic glove that will assist those recovering from stroke or with Parkinson’s Disease.
